French Teacher Subject Specialism

(TSST)

The TSST course is aimed at teachers with QTS in the state sector (including secondary and middle schools, FE Colleges, special schools and PRUs) who are already teaching or plan to teach some physics at secondary/FE level.

The course is also suitable for those returning to teaching after a career break.

Programme Objectives

Preparing non-specialists to teach French confidently to GCSE, the course draws on up-to-date research to improve subject knowledge, pedagogy and practical skills.

Outcomes for participants:

- Raise the overall quality of teaching and learning in lessons and contribute to schemes of learning

- Extend subject knowledge and learn and develop skills with others from schools across the region

Outstanding Teacher Programme

The OTP is open to teachers with the potential and capacity to deliver consistently outstanding lessons and who will take key ideas and skills back to their school to share, or even lead, on some teaching and learning initiatives within their department/faculty or across the school.

The OTP consists of two full days and five half-day sessions over a ten week period. This is interspersed with three in school practice sessions where delegates have the opportunity to apply the skills acquired to class room practice, reflect and feedback to the group.

Improving Teacher Programme

The ITP is open to all teachers who want to improve their teaching and want to learn how to deliver consistently good and outstanding lessons that match sound theory with excellent practice. The ITP provides teachers with in-depth coaching tailored to their individual needs. It includes a focus on: lesson planning; engagement; challenge; starter activities; plenary sessions; questioning techniques; assessment; developing effective differentiation strategies. The ITP can also form part of the professional development provision or entitlement for staff development within the school's improvement plan.

The ITP consists of six consecutive weekly half-day sessions.
